Sound and Visuals Replacement

Having purchased a new sound desk for the church last year, it became apparent that our aging speakers and amps were quickly reaching the end of their lifespan (we’ve had them almost twenty years).

Having purely been designed for speech reinforcement, a new sound system would reflect the fact that two of our Sunday services now have musical requirements which go far beyond the capabilities of the old system. It was also felt that now would be the appropriate time to upgrade our visuals system, in order to incorporate high definition cameras and projectors, as the technology has advanced considerably in recent years.

A working group was put together at the start of the year, including members of Fabric and our resident sound and visuals experts, and after going to tender with multiple companies, a contractor was selected and the PCC approved the spend in the Spring. Over the course of the summer, approval for the works was obtained from the diocese, and signed off by our architect, and now we’re delighted to announce that work has started!

This will mean considerable disruption so you may see temporary devices setup, new things going in prior to the old being removed, etc, so do bear with us during this period of transition, which will run until the end of October. We are also taking the opportunity to have a cabling containment system installed, in order to tidy up the cables in our central nave, so once works our finished you should see not only new speakers, projectors and cameras, but also considerably less wiring along running along the surfaces of the walls. So once works our finished, will we benefit from improved sound for music and speech, clearer pictures on our displays, and also a nave that is much more in keeping with what the original designers had in mind.
