Fasting often helps to deepen our spiritual attentiveness. 

It doesn’t have to be from food - particularly if you suffer from certain conditions (such as diabetes) or you're pregnant. It could be from social media or TV for the day. 

If you’re fasting from food, just one meal can be a good way to begin. Allow more time to do things as you will have reduced energy. Make sure you drink lots of water (definitely inadvisable to fast from both food and drink). Don’t plan to take any vigorous exercise until the day after you’ve broken your fast.  

However you fast, setting aside extended time to seek God has often been a way that God’s people have sought spiritual breakthrough and fresh direction.
