What is DY?
The Discipleship Year (DY) is about growing as disciples of Jesus, learning how to serve him and his Kingdom with the whole of your life, for the whole of your life. It will take you on a life-changing journey of discovery and adventure, where you’ll be inspired, get practical Kingdom experience, make life-long friendships, and have a lot of fun in the process!
Who is it for?
The Discipleship Year is for ANYONE aged 18-24 looking to:
• Grow confidence in who God has made you to be
• Discover the purpose he has for your life
• Get involved by serving in a local church
• Discover, exercise and nurture your spiritual gifts and passions
• Be challenged to step out, risk and see God work through you
What does it cost?
The Discipleship Year will cost students £1,000, which covers all your teaching and training, including national input such as weekends away. Each placement church (eg Highfield) also pays an additional £500. Full fees are due by the course start date.
We would usually run a short-term mission trip as part of the course. However, due to the coronavirus restrictions that are currently in place, we will not be able to offer this to the 2020/21 intake.
What does a typical week look like?
The DY course will occupy 20hrs of your week. This is split into two parts - training and placement. Each week you will have one day of input and training, delivered on a Tuesday. Currently this will likely be online for part of the first term, but we hope this will change once restrictions are lifted further. The remainder of your time is then spent in your ministry placement. This year we are offering ministry placements in children's ministry, youth, students and more!
When does it start?
Term starts the week beginning 7 September 2020 and will end on 16 July 2021, although students are expected to serve on team at one of the New Wine United weeks. Please note that team places are popular.
